What lip blushing does
Lip blushing places pigment in the lips and along the lip border to even out tone, restore color that has faded, and refine the shape. It does not add volume the way filler does; the fuller look comes from color and a crisper, more balanced lip line. Lines can be very slightly softened beyond the natural border to create the illusion of fuller lips, within what looks natural on your face.
Colors range from a sheer, your-lips-but-better tint to rosier or bolder shades, including reds. The shade is chosen with you at the appointment, based on your natural lip color and skin undertones.
Who lip blushing may suit
- Pale, uneven, or two-toned lips
- Lip lines that have lost definition over time
- Mildly asymmetrical lips you balance with liner every day
- Anyone who wants to skip lip liner and still look put-together
Lip blushing is not performed during pregnancy, on anyone under 18, or over cold sores, cuts, or irritation on the lips. If you have ever had a cold sore, tell Mahsa and talk with your physician before your appointment, because the procedure can trigger an outbreak. If you have lip filler, mention it at your consultation so timing can be discussed.

Lip blush healing stages
Lips heal differently from brows, and the healed color is much softer than what you see on day one. Individual healing varies.
| When | What is normal |
|---|---|
| Day 1–2 | Swelling, tenderness, and color that looks bright and bold. Bruising is possible; ice helps. |
| Days 3–7 | Dryness and light peeling. Color can look patchy as the surface flakes. Do not pick. |
| Weeks 1–3 | Color may look faded or cloudy while the lips settle. This is expected. |
| Around week 4 | Healed color gradually shows through, softer and more natural than on day one. |
Lip blushing aftercare
Mahsa's written lip aftercare includes:
- Day of the procedure: ice on and off to limit swelling and bruising. Gently pat the lips dry about every 15 minutes and keep them moist with Aquaphor.
- The first day: avoid toothpaste on the lips and hot foods.
- The first 3 days: avoid whitening toothpaste and teeth whiteners, spicy and salty foods, lemon, vinegar, coffee, wine, and strongly colored food and drinks.
- For 10 days: avoid pools, sun, tanning, heavy exercise, and skin treatments around the mouth.
- For 2–4 weeks: keep applying Aquaphor so the lips stay moist.
- Do not pick or peel flaking skin, and avoid smoking, which can affect healing and color.
Touch-ups and longevity
A follow-up is scheduled once the lips have fully healed, typically around six weeks after the first session, to even out color and refine the shape. Lip blushing can last up to about two to three years without touch-ups, and Mahsa recommends an annual touch-up to keep color vivid. Sun exposure and smoking speed up fading.

Questions clients ask
How long does lip blush last?
Lip blushing fades gradually and can last up to about two to three years without touch-ups. Mahsa recommends an annual touch-up to keep the color vivid.
How long does lip blush take to heal?
The surface usually heals within about a week, but healed color takes around four weeks to show. Lips look brighter at first, then softer and more natural as they settle.
Does lip blush get lighter after healing?
Yes. Color looks noticeably bolder in the first days and softens considerably as the lips heal. The follow-up appointment adds depth where needed.
Does lip blushing hurt?
Most people feel some discomfort, and lips are more sensitive than brows. It varies from person to person, and Mahsa checks in with you throughout.
Does lip blush make lips look bigger?
Lip blushing does not add volume like filler, but color and a crisp, balanced lip line can make lips look fuller and more defined.
Can I choose my lip blush color?
Yes. The shade is selected with you based on your natural lip color and skin undertones, from a sheer natural tint to rosier or bolder colors such as red.
What should I avoid after lip blushing?
For the first few days avoid hot, spicy, salty, and acidic foods, coffee, wine, and whitening toothpaste; for about ten days avoid pools, sun, tanning, and heavy exercise. Keep lips moist with Aquaphor and never pick flakes.
Can I get lip blushing if I get cold sores?
Tell Mahsa and talk with your physician first. Lip tattooing can trigger a cold sore outbreak, and your doctor may recommend preventive medication before the appointment.
Does lip blush need a touch-up?
Yes. A follow-up after the lips fully heal, typically around six weeks later, is part of the process. After that, an annual refresh maintains the color.
