Powder Brows in Tarzana

Powder brows are a permanent makeup technique that uses a cosmetic tattoo machine to build soft, shaded color through the brow, for a filled-in look similar to brow powder or pencil. Mahsa Gerami creates powder brows at The Brow Doctor | Makeup By Mahsa G. in Tarzana, Los Angeles.

This page is general information, not medical advice. Suitability for any treatment is confirmed at a private consultation, and clients with medical conditions or medications should check with their physician first.

What powder brows are

Instead of drawing individual hair strokes, powder brows place tiny dots of pigment with a machine to create a soft, diffused shade. The front of the brow is usually kept lighter and the tail more defined, which is why the look is sometimes called ombré brows. Healed powder brows look like softly filled-in brows rather than a solid block of color.

Like microblading, powder brows are a form of permanent makeup: pigment sits in the upper layer of the skin and fades gradually, so periodic color refreshes are part of caring for them.

Fine hair strokes can soften and blur as oily skin heals, so powder shading is often the better long-term choice there. Mahsa recommends a technique after looking at your skin and brows at your consultation.

Who powder brows may suit

  • Oily, combination, or large-pored skin
  • Clients who like the look of brow powder or pencil and fill in their brows every day
  • Sparse or light brows that need depth, not only shape
  • Faded microblading that needs a softer, fuller finish, when appropriate

Permanent makeup is not performed on anyone under 18, during pregnancy, over an open wound or active infection, or during chemotherapy or radiation. If you have a skin condition near the brows, a history of keloids, or any medical concern, check with your physician first and tell Mahsa at your consultation.

What to expect at your appointment

  2. 02Patch test if you want onePatch tests are available if you would like to check how your skin responds before your appointment.
  3. 03Mapping and colorMahsa maps the brow shape to your facial proportions and chooses a pigment for your hair color and skin tone. You approve both.
  4. 04ShadingColor is built gradually with the machine. Most clients feel some discomfort, which varies from person to person.

Healing and aftercare

Powder brows look noticeably darker and bolder for the first several days, then soften as the skin flakes and settles. A lighter, patchy stage is normal before color comes back through. You leave with written aftercare instructions; the full routine is in the permanent makeup aftercare guide.

  • Keep brows dry and clean as instructed, and apply only what Mahsa recommends.
  • Let flakes fall off on their own; do not pick or scratch.
  • Avoid pools, direct sun, tanning, heavy sweating, and brow makeup while healing.
  • Call your physician for spreading redness, increasing swelling, pus, or fever.

Touch-ups and longevity

A follow-up is scheduled once the brows have healed, typically four to six weeks after the first session, to perfect shape and even out color. After that, periodic color refreshes keep powder brows crisp. How long they last depends on your skin, sun exposure, skincare, and the pigment color.

Correcting older brow tattoos

Mahsa offers correction of previous permanent makeup when it is appropriate. Some faded or uneven brows can be refined with powder shading; others need a different plan first. She assesses your brows in person and tells you honestly what she recommends.

Powder brows pricing

Permanent makeup services at The Brow Doctor start at $600. Mahsa confirms the price for your brows at consultation. Gift cards are available. Book a PMU consultation.
