When the bridal party is large
Eight people needing makeup is not eight times one person's appointment — it is a scheduling problem. Worked through one at a time, a party that size turns into a very long morning, and whoever goes first is ready hours before anyone needs them to be. That is worth settling before the day rather than on it.
For larger groups Mahsa brings a team of up to three trained artists, so everyone is ready on schedule rather than working through the whole party one at a time. Send her the final headcount before the day, since she plans the timing around how many people need makeup.
Staging a house with several rooms
- Pick one room for makeup and keep it for makeup. Moving a station mid-morning costs more time than people expect.
- Choose the room with the biggest window. Mahsa works facing natural light, which shows true color and makes the makeup read correctly in photographs.
- Give each artist a chair and a surface. If more than one artist is coming, each needs their own spot with an outlet nearby.
- Keep hair somewhere else if you can. Separating hair and makeup into two rooms lets both run at once instead of taking turns.
- Leave the photographer a clear corner. Getting-ready photographs happen in the makeup room, so a tidy background is worth protecting.
- Send Mahsa the final headcount before the day. The number of artists and the schedule are built from it, and a late addition is the hardest thing to absorb.
The getting-ready room and photos guide goes further into light, clutter, and where to put the dress.
Who goes first, and why it matters
Bridal makeup takes about 2 hours and each bridal party member about 1 to 1.5 hours, and Mahsa works backward from your photo-ready time. Plan for the bride to be first or last in the chair rather than in the middle, so there is time for final touches before photographs.
Mothers and grandmothers often want a softer, lighter look that still photographs well. Mahsa adjusts products and technique for mature skin; see mother of the bride makeup.
The preview, and planning the group
The bridal preview is at the Tarzana studio and takes about 1 to 1.5 hours: a skin assessment, color matching, and refining the look around your dress and hair. For a larger wedding it is also the planning meeting — how many people, which rooms, what time the photographer arrives — so the morning is scheduled before it happens. Bring photos of looks you love and wear a top close to your neckline if you can. What happens at the bridal preview.
