Getting ready at home in Encino
Getting ready at home is one of the most personal parts of a wedding day: your mother and sisters nearby, a grandmother watching, the photographer catching the quiet moments before the dress goes on. It also puts a lot of people, lights, and schedules into one house. A calm makeup room keeps the whole morning on track.
Before the wedding, Mahsa asks where you plan to get ready and how many people need makeup, then plans the room and the timing with you.
How to set up the makeup room
- Light: choose the room with the biggest window. Mahsa sets up facing natural light, which shows true color on skin and makes the makeup read correctly in photos.
- A tall chair or a sturdy chair plus a table: Mahsa needs a surface for her kit next to the chair.
- An outlet nearby: for lighting and tools.
- Space for the photographer: the getting-ready photos happen in the same room, so leave a clear, tidy corner.
- A quiet start: plan for the bride to be first or last in the chair, not in the middle, so there is time for final touches before photos.
The getting-ready room and photos guide has more detail on light, clutter, and where to put the dress.
Timing for the bride, mothers, and bridal party
Mahsa works backward from your photo-ready or ceremony time. Bridal makeup takes about 2 hours, and each bridal party member about 1 to 1.5 hours. For home mornings with several family members, she can bring a team of up to three trained artists so no one is rushed.
Mothers and grandmothers often want a softer, lighter look that still photographs well. Mahsa adjusts products and technique for mature skin; see mother of the bride makeup.
A preview close to home
Because the studio is next door in Tarzana, the bridal preview is easy to fit around a workday or another wedding appointment. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and includes a skin assessment, color matching, and refining the look around your dress and hair. Bring photos of looks you love and, if possible, wear a top close to your neckline. What happens at the bridal preview.
