Getting ready in the Valley, marrying over the hill
A Sherman Oaks wedding morning often happens at home or at a nearby hotel, with the ceremony somewhere else entirely. That is a comfortable way to spend the morning, surrounded by family instead of in a venue suite, but it adds a move to the middle of the day — and the move is where timelines usually slip.
Nobody can promise what the 101 or the canyon roads will do on a Saturday afternoon, so the useful move is to plan as though the drive will be slow. Mahsa works backward from your photo-ready time rather than your ceremony time, which on a split day are far apart, and she confirms the start time with you.
Makeup that travels well
- Decide your photo-ready time, not just your ceremony time. On a split day the two are far apart, and the schedule is built backward from the earlier one.
- Plan the gap. Look at where your timeline has room between arriving and walking down the aisle; that is when there is space to freshen up.
- Ask at the preview what is worth carrying. A short, agreed list beats a full kit you have to dig through in a hotel corridor.
- Decide who holds it. Hand the kit to one person in the bridal party; a bride in a dress cannot also be carrying her own touch-up bag.
- Ask early if you want her with you later in the day. Whether that is possible, and what it would involve, is a question for the preview rather than the morning of.
The wedding day timeline guide works through how hair and makeup slot into a day that moves between locations.
Timing for the bride, mothers, and bridal party
Mahsa works backward from your photo-ready time, not your ceremony time, because on a split day those are far apart. Bridal makeup takes about 2 hours and each bridal party member about 1 to 1.5 hours. With a group and a drive ahead, she can bring a team of up to three trained artists so the whole house is ready at once instead of in sequence.
Mothers and grandmothers often want a softer look that still photographs well. Mahsa adjusts products and technique for mature skin; see mother of the bride makeup.
The preview is where the day gets planned
The bridal preview takes about 1 to 1.5 hours at the Tarzana studio and covers a skin assessment, color matching, and refining the look around your dress and hair. It is also when to tell Mahsa the ceremony is over the hill: she asks where you plan to get ready and how many people need makeup, then plans the room and the timing with you. Bring photos of looks you love and wear a top close to your neckline if you can. What happens at the bridal preview.

Questions clients ask
Do you come to Sherman Oaks for wedding makeup?
Yes. Mahsa Gerami travels to Sherman Oaks homes, hotels, and venues on the wedding day. The studio is west along Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana. Travel is priced by location and included in your quote.
I'm getting ready in the Valley but marrying on the Westside. Does that work?
Yes, and it is common. Mahsa works backward from your photo-ready time rather than your ceremony time, which on a split day are far apart, and confirms the start time with you. Nobody can promise a particular drive time, so it is worth telling her at the preview that the day moves between two locations.
Can Mahsa stay with us through the day or meet us at the venue?
Ask at the preview. Whether it is possible for your date, and what it would involve, is best settled in advance rather than on the morning, and it is included in the quote she confirms with you.
What should I carry for touch-ups?
Ask Mahsa at the preview what is worth bringing for your particular look. Whatever the list, it helps to hand it to one person in the bridal party rather than carrying it yourself in a dress.
Can you do my mother and bridal party too?
Yes. Bridal Party Makeup is $350 per person, about 1 to 1.5 hours each, and for larger groups Mahsa brings a team of up to three trained artists so everyone is ready at the same time.
Do you speak Farsi?
Yes. Mahsa speaks English and Farsi, and Persian bridal makeup is her specialty.
